1. Introduction
2. Finding a nude model
3. Posing your model
4. Artistic nudes
5. Implied nudesImplied nudes are everywhere used in all sorts of marketing material, from selling you a car to beauty salon images. It is funny how a stitch of clothing or cloth makes it a fully accepted style of nude photography with little stigma, the human race what a strange bunch we are.
One of the great things about this style is the low barrier for entry, models are easy to find and a simple home studio will produce awesome results, the implied nude is a great way to enter the world of nude photography.
Use props and accessories
Props and accessories are commonly used in the implied nude, used to hide clothing to give that cheeky portrayal, shoes to accentuate lines or lingerie to further the sexy appeal, although we could probably start a whole new article on lingerie photography; maybe we will do that at a later stage.Get creative
Creativity with the implied nude can often directly relate to the confidence of your model, a model that is comfortable with nude photography often produces the best results. This is because you can shoot with limited covering and often can get in much closer to the model as he or she is comfortable in front of the camera.Start out at the basics
Entry level or simple set up for implied nude is where the model is fully clothed but the shot is set up in a way that gives the illusion of being naked. This style as the simplest form can also be the easiest to start with, as the model even if new or a friend will often be comfortable with what is going on.Trust
You will often read of being comfortable and trusting the photographer, this is imperatively important as a nervous or uncomfortable model shines through the pictures like a great big pimple.Communicate
Best sessions are sessions where the model feels part of the action, the best way to achieve this is with communication, hold a conversation with the model, or reassure them that the pictures are working great. Involving the model and creating confident banter breaks down the barriers between photographer and subject, you will find the model gains confidence fast in front of the camera and this will shine through the pictures. Many of the techniques for shooting the implied nude are the same as shooting the artistic nude that we covered in our previous tutorial. Keep lighting simple, and experiment with lighting techniques, as a note we will be covering different lighting later in the series and will have examples of lighting set-ups.
Top tips for shooting implied nudes
1. Make sure your model knows your objective, how the model expresses him or herself can dramatically change the mood of the image so make sure they know the style you are looking for.2. Don’t always go for the hand or arm covering the breasts, this is a tired poses and could even be considered cliché in many ways. Try and be a little more creative and use interesting or even strange props to covers the modesty.
3. A completely nude model can produce very sexy implied nudes and opens the door for many large props; huge leaves, skies, or even a snowboard could be used to produce a dramatic sexy implied nude.
4. Deep silhouette, try some full nudes with a very silhouetted implied nude, meter for the background and leave only a shape, can be very artistic if dome right.
5. Try open weaves clothes, that from the main angle would show all but used creatively turn into a implied nude, the same can be said for normal clothing, pull it up, push it aside experiment experiment experiment.
6. Natural elements or out in nature can produce beautiful implied nudes, venture out into the forest and try a nature implied nude or even full nude shoot.
A great deal of the photography of the naked form has been supplied by a brilliant nude photographer sansreproache, his works are a little risqué but show brilliant technique and understanding of the human form please note I have pre warned you about his photostream.
